Position Overview

The Radiology Breast Imaging Service is seeking to appoint a dedicated clinical support specialist. You will become an integral part of the imaging team, providing essential clinical assistance and ensuring a high standard of patient-centered care. This role involves interaction with patients, the public, and healthcare professionals at various levels. Your responsibilities will include supporting radiographers and radiologists, particularly in situations involving patients who may be unwell or in distress, necessitating strong interpersonal and communication skills. Your primary duties will encompass assisting with imaging procedures and performing certain administrative tasks within the mammography unit.

Important Note

Due to the sensitive nature of this position, only female candidates will be considered in accordance with Section 7(2)(b) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

Key Responsibilities

- Uphold exceptional standards of patient care and comfort, including providing support during interventional procedures, assisting with changing, and addressing hygiene needs.

- Offer support to the radiology service, manage workloads, and assist in the clinical environment to ensure optimal patient care.

- Prepare trolleys for imaging procedures, both sterile and non-sterile, following established guidelines.

- Assist Radiologists, Radiographers, and Sonographers during specialized sessions, taking responsibility for patient care throughout examinations by observing, assisting, and providing comfort as needed. Apply dressings post-interventional procedures and offer aftercare advice to patients when necessary.

- Handle verbal and telephone inquiries and facilitate the electronic transfer of images to other healthcare facilities.

- Interact effectively with patients in the breast imaging department, maintaining professionalism in potentially distressing situations.

- Monitor and maintain stock levels.

- Provide care and comfort to patients and their families before, during, and after imaging procedures.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in a caring profession
  • Experience supporting clinical work
  • Proficient in computer use, including data entry and updating appointment and attendance records

Desirable

  • Experience working within the NHS
  • Experience in a clinical or medical environment

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • GCSE English Language & Maths (Grade C or above) or equivalent qualification/relevant experience, or NVQ Level 2

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3
  • Care certificate
  • Awareness of guidelines regarding IR(ME)R

Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and relatives
  • Effective team player
  • Ability to engage with clients facing communication barriers (language, hearing impairments, learning difficulties)
