Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established team as a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The role involves providing specialist information and psychological support to patients and families who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, through breast screening and symptomatic pathways.
This challenging role includes working with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide advice, holistic care, and support to patients attending the breast services.
Candidates should have a high level of independence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously and as part of the Breast CNS team.
There is also a requirement to work across sites.
Previous experience in the care and management of breast disease or oncology is desirable. Specialized training will be provided by the Breast CNS team in-house and externally.
Main Duties of the Job
Leadership and Clinical Expertise
- Provide clinical expertise with high standards of person-centered care
- Promote a culture that supports self-management
Patient Advocacy and Support
- Deliver education and training to other professionals involved in patient care
- Active member of the MDT - patient advocate
Holistic Care and Support
- Support patient-focused education, i.e., train self-manage for ongoing consequences of treatments
- Develops clinical, technical, and research skills
Personal and Professional Development
- Demonstrates evaluation of nursing practice and suggests changes
- Personal responsibility for lifelong learning/personal development through clinical supervision, appraisal, and Knowledge and Skills Framework
Key Worker and Clinical Caseload
- Act as a Key Worker for a clinical caseload
- Work to proactively manage care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients
Communication and Information
- Assesses people's information needs and provide relevant information
- Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice, and support across services
Self-Management and Risk Stratification
- Promote self-management, risk stratification to determine who can self-manage, those who will need guided support, and those who will require ongoing face-to-face support to live with and beyond cancer and its treatment
