Based At: McQueens Dairies Ltd

Working Hours: Nightshift 21:00 - 07:30

Salary: £40,000 Per Annum and up to 10% performance related bonus

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Depot Operations Manager to join our team at McQueens Dairies Ltd. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for managing the overall performance, workplace organization, annual budget, and functionality of our depot facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Depot Team:

    Effectively lead the depot to excellent standards in the following areas:

    • Health & Safety:

      Drive a proactive H&S leadership culture with Gemba Walks, safety audits, and behavioral observations being part of the norm.

    • Learning & Development:

      Organize and control the induction and ongoing training of all employees in conjunction with our Learning & Development team.

    • Customer Services:

      Ensure that our teams provide the outstanding service expected and that all our deliveries are completed safely, successfully, and on time.

    • Financial Control:

      Manage a depot level Profit and Loss centre. Keep distribution costs and overheads in line with budget.

    • Facilities Management:

      Maintain good operating standards using 5S disciplines.

    • Despatch:

      Ensure that the stores staff can have orders picked on time prior to the drivers' arrival.

    • Human Resources Operations:

      Responsibly manage staff holidays through Teamseer.

    • Transport:

      Communicate effectively with Transport team to ensure all faults and repairs are carried out as soon as possible.

  • Coach and Develop:

    With a will to detail and a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business, you must be able to demonstrate that you have a drive to attain and maintain excellent standards.

  • Key Areas:

    • Health & Safety:

      All accidents and injuries are recorded and reported to H&S team following the set guidelines.

    • Depot Team Performance:

      Review the following key points using a balanced scorecard approach which directly relate to depot and driver performance, discussing regularly with Team Leaders and drivers, getting detailed feedback for reports:

      • Customer Complaints:

        Review and address customer complaints in a timely and professional manner.

      • Driver Messages:

        Monitor and address driver messages in a timely and professional manner.

      • Driving Scores:

        Monitor and address driving scores in a timely and professional manner.

      • Bottle Returns:

        Monitor and address bottle returns in a timely and professional manner.

      • Delivery Issues/GPS Co-ordinates:

        Monitor and address delivery issues and GPS co-ordinates in a timely and professional manner.

      • Run Efficiency:

        Monitor and address run efficiency in a timely and professional manner.

      • New Business:

        Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive growth and revenue.

    • Depot Processes:

      • All Stock Recon and Controls:

        All stock recon and controls are recorded accurately, and old stock is rotated to avoid waste.

      • Controls for Safe Movement:

        Controls are in place to safely allow the movement of staff and vehicles without overcrowding in the depot and in the yard.

      • Housekeeping:

        Good standard of housekeeping is maintained, and any works need carried out are reported and actioned.

      • Cold Chain:

        Maintain the cold chain by ensuring all doors are closed and that the product only leaves the chill when loading is permitted.

    • Vehicle Fleet Management:

      • Faults and Repairs:

        Communicate effectively with Transport team to ensure all faults and repairs are carried out as soon as possible.

      • Accident Reporting:

        Full accident reporting processes are carried out (including getting third party details).

      • Vehicle Hygiene:

        High standards of vehicle hygiene are followed.

      • Fuel and Ad-Blue Logs:

        Fuel and Ad-Blue logs are kept accurate and up to date.

    • Regulatory:

      • H&S Regulations:

        Manage the facility in accordance with H&S regulations and technical food safety standards.

      • GDPR:

        All paperwork is disposed, scanned, or secured in line with GDPR.

Key Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Experience:

  • Background in Dairy, Food, or Drinks Distribution:

    Background in dairy, food, or drinks distribution preferred.

  • Management Experience:

    Management experience in a nightshift operation.

  • Food Safety Audit Standards:

    Exposure to Food safety audit standards such as BRC.

Knowledge:

  • IOSH Certified:

    IOSH certified

Excellent Knowledge of MS Office Applications:

Excellent knowledge of MS Office Applications (Excel, Word)
