The role of Senior Practitioner within the Children and Families Hub is a permanent, part-time opportunity designed for dedicated professionals in the field of social work.
Salary: £43,477 to £52,302 per annum FTE
Location: Colchester
Working Style: Fixed-base worker

About the Role
The Children and Families Hub serves as the primary access point for Children's Social Care, focusing on delivering early assistance, guidance, and support to children, young people, and their families. The objective is to protect them from significant harm while fostering their development and well-being. The Hub identifies the appropriate level of support necessary to facilitate positive change, enhance parenting skills, and promote emotional health.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will lead the team, offering mentorship to less experienced staff and stepping in for the Team Manager as required. You will oversee the review of child in need plans, particularly before their closure, and take charge of specific practice areas. This role presents excellent opportunities for professional growth and participation in the development of our team and services. We value innovative ideas that reinforce our relationship-based approach with both service users and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality social work to your caseload while offering guidance and support to colleagues.
- Demonstrate a commitment to systemic, relationship-focused social work, implementing effective and innovative interventions.
- Build strong partnerships with external stakeholders and within the organization.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A diploma in Social Work, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent, along with registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker, with at least two years of post-qualification experience.
- Proficient in making informed decisions and managing potential risks associated with interventions.
- Proven experience in supporting colleagues with complex decision-making and a desire to contribute to the Management Team.
- Demonstrated recent practice at an experienced social worker level, with a comprehensive understanding of Children Services and relevant legal processes.
- Knowledge of child development theories and their practical applications.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and adherence to current professional standards, alongside good IT skills.
Mobility Requirements
The role necessitates mobility across a broader operational area, including the ability to transport service users and their belongings as needed. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, or alternative means to meet mobility requirements, are essential.
