Essex County Council is at a pivotal moment as we enhance and expand our residential services. The new facility will serve as a revitalized short-term residence for five young individuals aged 12-16, where you will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to assist them in developing the necessary skills and resilience to reintegrate with their families or transition to long-term care.
As a Specialized Care Practitioner, you will embody a unique set of qualities. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver nurturing, therapeutic support to children who have faced trauma, providing care akin to that of a parent. Each day will present unique challenges and rewards.
In this role, you will be part of the management team, overseeing the daily operations of the home and fostering a caring, safe, and secure environment. You will work 37 hours across a blend of early (7am - 2.30pm) and late shifts (2pm - 9.30pm), with every other weekend off. Additionally, you will supervise a team of staff, offering guidance and regular oversight to help them support children and young people in achieving their goals and reaching their full potential.
It is essential to maintain an open-minded, flexible, and adaptable approach, managing challenges with a calm and patient demeanor. You should possess the ability and willingness to understand and address challenging behaviors, including aggression and violence, utilizing various de-escalation techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
Prior experience in a children's residential setting or relevant line management experience is crucial. If you do not already hold a Level 3 Diploma, you will be required to complete this within two years of commencing employment. We will provide comprehensive training and quality supervision to ensure you are well-prepared for your role. With the right attitude and access to a thorough in-house induction, you will confidently embark on your career with Essex County Council.
If selected for an interview, you will first engage in a discussion to delve into the details of your application and address any questions you may have about the role. This initial interview may be conducted virtually or in person. Successful candidates will then be invited for a second interview at the home, where you will meet some of the team, respond to a written question, and participate in further structured interview questions.
