Specialized Caregiver
Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £34,024.10 to £38,898.20 per annum (includes allowance)
Location: Colchester
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and adolescents? If so, this opportunity may be ideal for you.
Essex County Council is currently enhancing its residential services, and we are excited to announce the opening of a newly refurbished short-term home for five young individuals aged 12-16. As part of a collaborative team focused on the well-being of each child, you will assist them in building the necessary skills and resilience to transition back to their families or into long-term care.
The role of a Specialized Caregiver demands a unique individual. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate, therapeutic support to children who have faced trauma, nurturing them as a parent would. Each day presents a variety of experiences, filled with both challenges and rewards.
As a Specialized Caregiver, you will play a crucial role in the management team, overseeing the daily operations of the home and fostering a caring, safe, and secure environment. Your work schedule will consist of 37 hours, including a mix of early (7am - 2.30pm) and late shifts (2pm - 9.30pm), with every other weekend off. You will also be responsible for supervising a team of staff, providing them with guidance and regular oversight to help children and young people achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
It is essential to maintain an open-minded, flexible, and adaptable approach, managing challenges with a calm and patient demeanor. You should possess the ability and willingness to understand and address challenging behaviors, including aggression and violence, utilizing various de-escalation techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
Previous experience in a Children's Home or relevant management experience is required. If you do not already hold a Level 3 Diploma, you will be expected to complete this within two years of starting your employment. We will provide comprehensive training and regular supervision to ensure you are well-prepared for the role. This, combined with the right attitude and access to a thorough in-house induction, will empower you to embark on your career with Essex County Council with confidence.
If selected for an interview, you will have an initial discussion to delve into the details of your application and to address any questions you may have about the role. This can be conducted virtually or in person. Successful candidates will be invited for a second interview at the home, where you will meet some of the team, respond to a written question, and answer additional interview questions.
Due to the nature of this position, applicants must be at least 21 years old.
