Join Our Team as a Regulatory Compliance Lead

This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a Regulatory Compliance Lead to become part of the Prudential Risk team within Financial Risk Oversight. In this role, you will provide expert regulatory guidance in the realm of core prudential risks, playing a key role in shaping the regulatory objectives for the organization. You will also assist in the execution of regulatory changes, ensuring that the Society aligns with the expectations set forth by the Prudential Regulation Authority.

Your Responsibilities

The role presents a unique chance to deliver specialized advice across the prudential regulatory framework, managing and updating the repository of prudential requirements in Metric Stream while overseeing compliance. You will collaborate with first-line colleagues to enhance the reporting of the prudential compliance status.

Success in this position requires the ability to analyze intricate and sometimes contradictory regulations, focusing on both detailed aspects and the broader regulatory agenda. You will be tasked with identifying practical applications within the business context, exploring alternative solutions, and providing informed advice based on compliance risks. A comprehensive understanding of prudential regulations is essential.

About the Role

As a recognized subject matter expert, your work will be diverse and technically challenging, offering prudential risk insights across various business functions, including Finance, Risk, Retail, People, and Communications Brand and Engagement.

This position is situated within the Financial Risk Oversight function, which provides second-line review, challenge, and support across market, liquidity, capital, model, and business risks, in addition to prudential regulatory advice and oversight of Environmental, Social, and Governance matters. The department is led by the Director of Financial Risk Oversight, who reports to the Chief Risk Officer. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the broader team’s efforts and ensure that compliance considerations are integrated into the work.

Key Duties Include:

  • Delivering specialized core prudential regulatory advice, including areas such as interest rate risk in the banking book, market risk, liquidity risk, capital risk, and model risk management.
  • Monitoring and reporting on regulatory changes relevant to your portfolio.
  • Maintaining an updated list of applicable prudential regulations and collaborating with first-line teams to enhance management information for compliance.
  • Producing monthly and quarterly summaries of key prudential publications for distribution and committee review.
  • Partnering with Compliance and Regulatory Affairs to ensure a consistent approach to managing regulatory changes.
  • Building and nurturing relationships at a senior level, representing prudential risk in internal meetings.

About You

You should be adept at managing and leading a diverse range of projects, comfortable in providing informed opinions, and demonstrating best practices supported by regulatory evidence.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in prudential regulation.
  • Expertise in providing specialized core prudential regulatory advice.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and the ability to interpret their implications for the Society.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, forming and articulating opinions based on available information.
  • Self-driven with a commitment to seeking new challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing capabilities.

As a proactive individual, you will be expected to take ownership of issues beyond your immediate responsibilities for the benefit of the department and division. Effective prioritization and maintaining focus under pressure are essential skills for this role.
