Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the post holder is to actively inspire and engage patients in physical activities and sports, under the guidance of senior staff. Building rapport with patients who find it challenging to participate in activities is essential, along with a willingness to learn new techniques.

The role includes supporting structured Health and Fitness programs for patients. Responsibilities also encompass participating in safety protocols, including conducting patient and environment searches, preparing for sessions, observing patients, escorting them, and assisting in managing patient interactions.

Qualifications and Training

Essential Requirements

  • A solid educational background with at least 3 GCSEs or equivalent.
  • A degree in a relevant field such as Sports Management or a Sports BTEC, along with Coaching NVQ/SVQ level 4/5.
  • Completion of a Management/Leadership training course at Level 3.
  • A recognized adult education teaching qualification or a qualification in sports and leisure.
  • A nationally recognized sporting qualification at level 4/5.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Skills in coaching.
  • National Qualification in Leadership and Management.
  • Proficiency in motivation and engagement techniques.
  • Project management qualification from the Princes Trust.
  • Participation in the Aspire Management Programme.
  • Apprenticeship level 4/5 in Leadership Supervision and PDR training.

Experience

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience working with patients in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to assess patients' skill levels and needs effectively.
  • Previous experience in a relevant NHS post at band 3/4, involving staff management.
  • Demonstrated capacity to role model, empower, and motivate colleagues.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with patients facing forensic mental health challenges.
  • Involvement in effective change management within teams.
  • Experience in line management.
  • Participation in service or treatment audits.
  • Experience in handling challenging individuals.
