Job Title: Emergency Planning Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Planning Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of an effective emergency planning work programme, including the review, development, and roll-out of plans, training packages, and exercises.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support the EPRR team in the continuous development and improvement of training and exercise packages;
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal colleagues and external partners in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies or incidents;
  • Develop and review emergency and business continuity plans and procedures in line with local and national guidance;
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate tests or exercises of emergency and business continuity plans;
  • Coordinate projects in complex and challenging environments;
Requirements:
  • Degree, NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in the specialist area;
  • Diploma in Health Emergency Planning (DipHEP);
  • Qualification in project management or management studies;
  • Experience of working in the NHS or Public Sector;
  • Experience of performing risk assessments, carrying out Business Impact Analyses, and drafting briefing papers and correspondence at Senior Manager Level;
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner confidently and effectively both verbally and in written format;
  • Ability to persuade and influence decision making;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels;
  • Ability to diffuse challenging situations;
Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge and understanding of emergency planning legislation, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004;
  • Knowledge and understanding of emergency planning methodologies;
  • Experience of managing and reporting risks;
  • Knowledge of NHS England's Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Framework;
  • Values diversity and difference, operates with integrity and openness;
Working Environment:

The successful candidate will work as part of the EPRR team, supporting the Trust in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies or incidents. The role will involve working with minimal supervision and requiring flexibility to work as part of a team.
