London, Greater London, United Kingdom Amazon TA Full time
Position Overview
Amazon's EU AMZL Sustainability Engineering team is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to enhance initiatives within the broader Amazon electrification strategy.

Our Commitment
Amazon is dedicated to fostering a sustainable future for our customers, local communities, and the environment. As part of The Climate Pledge, we aim to achieve net-zero carbon across our operations by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement. To realize this vision, we require motivated individuals who are committed to making a significant impact on the sustainability of our products and supply chain.

Key Initiatives
The focus areas include:
  • Electrification of last-mile and middle-mile fleets.
  • Implementation of technologies to optimize energy efficiency in our facilities.
These efforts necessitate the establishment of one of the largest private charging networks globally and the development of innovative electrical designs to facilitate smart grid operations.

Travel Opportunities
This role offers the chance to travel and engage with diverse cultures across multiple EU countries. The position will be based in a major EU city, with travel comprising up to 25% of your time, either domestically or to other EMEA nations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Align and manage stakeholder expectations for the deployment of AMZL Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and smart grid solutions.
  • Oversee vendor relationships to ensure installation capacity, quality assurance, and seamless collaboration with on-site teams, including health and safety and operations.
  • Conduct design validation to ensure compliance with electrical standards during the installation of electrical systems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, supporting Field Engineering in preparing the supply chain for on-site installation execution.
  • Develop business cases and present them to leadership to define program scopes.

A Day in the Life
Your daily activities will involve collaboration with various organizational levels and multiple stakeholder groups to drive impactful decisions across the Amazon transportation network. You will work alongside partners from Operations, Process Improvement, Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Finance, Procurement, and external vendors to design and implement new equipment and processes for AMZL, ATS, and CF.

About the Team
The EU Sustainability Engineering team is responsible for defining and continuously enhancing electrical standards for the EV charging network and smart grid solutions. We prioritize design reliability and cost efficiency, as we recognize that resource waste poses significant risks to sustainability initiatives. The extensive scale of Amazon's last-mile network necessitates close collaboration with other teams, including:
  • Global Fleet team for plans and financial justifications.
  • Field Engineering team for installation support.
  • Maintenance and Operations teams for ongoing product improvement.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in building, developing, and leading programs in a dynamic and ambiguous work environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in communicating complex topics to diverse audiences and conducting data analysis for informed decision-making.
  • Experience with Excel, reporting tools, databases, and cloud computing.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field with expertise in electrical installations.
  • Experience in electrical engineering programs, hardware procurement, and maintenance service contracting.
  • Experience in resource planning for large-scale programs.
  • Understanding of industry players in the electrical and energy sectors in Europe and worldwide.
  • Experience in customer and partner development, validating products through in-depth technological analysis.
  • Familiarity with the EV charging industry and Smart Grid technology.

Amazon is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and do not discriminate based on race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
