Position Overview

The Whittington Health NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant in Community Paediatrics to fulfill the role of Medical Advisor for Adoption Services. This position is structured as an eight PA role, with no requirement for out-of-hours on-call duties.

Our dedicated Children Looked After medical team is supported by experienced nursing staff and efficient administrative resources. The department prides itself on providing exceptional training and experience in neurodisability and safeguarding, offering the flexibility to tailor a work schedule that aligns with the successful candidate's interests.

We welcome applications from individuals with a background in Community Paediatrics and experience working with Children Looked After. Strong clinical paediatric skills, along with effective written and verbal communication abilities, are essential, as is the capacity to work collaboratively within a team.

The successful candidate will be stationed at a newly established child development centre and will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to children with diverse special needs and disabilities.

Role Responsibilities

The Medical Advisor for Adoption will engage with the established Children in Care team, which includes various healthcare professionals dedicated to the welfare of children in care. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting and overseeing health assessments for children in the adoption process.
  • Preparing comprehensive adoption medical reports that evaluate previous health assessments and their implications for the child's future.
  • Meeting with prospective adopters to provide clear and comprehensible information, aiding in the development of adoption support plans.
  • Providing health assessments for prospective adopters, evaluating their impact on the child's well-being and parenting capacity.
  • Participating in adoption panels by reviewing medical reports and facilitating discussions regarding any identified concerns.
  • Delivering training on health issues related to looked after children during adoption preparation workshops.

Training and Supervision

The post holder will actively contribute to the training and supervision of specialty trainees within the department, providing valuable clinical experience and mentorship.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include GMC registration, MBBS or equivalent, and relevant training in Community Paediatrics. Candidates should possess experience in paediatrics, neurodisability, and child protection, along with strong clinical assessment skills.
