Job Overview

The role of a Patient Care Assistant is crucial within the Enhanced Care Team, focusing on delivering personalized therapeutic support and supervision to enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of patients. The emphasis is on patient-centered care and comprehensive activity planning to adapt to the evolving needs of individuals during their hospital experience.

This team is relatively new within the organization and is designed to grow and adapt through collaborative teamwork, ensuring that we meet the increasing demands of our services while maintaining high standards of patient care and oversight.

The Enhanced Care Team is responsible for providing dedicated support and supervision to patients across various hospital wards. The role operates under the guidance of registered nursing staff and ward management, with accountability to the Clinical Lead for Enhanced Care.

*Flexibility in working across different shifts, wards, and locations is essential to meet patient and service requirements. Discussions regarding permanent night shifts and weekend work can be held during the interview process.*

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Assistants are tasked with delivering high-quality personal care, support, and supervision, always respecting the dignity and individual preferences of patients. Compassion and empathy are vital to enhancing patient health, wellbeing, and overall experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one care and support through attentive observation and interaction, aimed at minimizing patient risk and enhancing their experience.
  • Ensuring that all personal care needs are met in a patient-centered and inclusive manner.
  • Planning activities that promote therapeutic engagement and enjoyment for patients.
  • Accompanying patients during transfers to different wards or hospital locations as necessary, demonstrating a flexible approach to meet service demands.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and demonstrating initiative when required.
  • Assisting in the orientation and support of new team members.

A mandatory two-week training program will be provided to equip staff with essential knowledge of healthcare services, along with ongoing support to ensure confidence and competence in the role. Additional specialized training will be necessary to perform the role proficiently.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications
