The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic pharmacy technician to join our team as the Pharmacy Technician Team Manager at University Hospital Monklands. The successful candidate will provide managerial and professional leadership to the acute pharmacy technician team, ensuring the safe and cost-effective purchasing of medicines.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of expanding roles for the pharmacy team in NHS Lanarkshire, including pharmacy technicians, as well as developing future plans for the replacement of the current University Hospital Monklands site. The post holder will be a key person involved in the realisation of plans for a new pharmacy department, including the introduction of automation.

We are looking for a pharmacy technician with an extensive and varied experience within hospital pharmacy practice, including knowledge of procurement and stock control. The ideal candidate will have a passion for delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services and developing those that deliver them.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide managerial and professional leadership to the acute pharmacy technician team
  2. Lead on the safe and cost-effective purchasing of medicines
  3. Develop and implement plans for a new pharmacy department, including the introduction of automation
  4. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards
  5. Manage audits and project work
  6. Complex pharmacy computer and IT skills, including reporting financial data
  7. Understanding of financial instructions
Requirements
  • Membership of Professional Body – General Pharmaceutical Council
  • SVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development / management training, this to include HNC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Management (or equivalent experience)
  • Professional Development Award (PDA) - Dispensary Checking Technician Qualification (DCT)
  • Work Based Assessor Qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Leadership and managerial experience within hospital pharmacy practice
  • Experience of change management
  • Experience in staff recruitment, and application of other HR policies
  • Ability to work under pressure accurately within departmental SOPs to maintain quality standards

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Pharmacy within University Hospital Monklands.

The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, with a minimum of 27 days annual leave increasing with length of service, and a minimum of 8 days of public holidays.
