Job Description

Job Title: Senior Pharmacy Technician - Aseptic Services

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Aseptic Services team at NHS Scotland. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing a team of pharmacy technicians, ensuring the safe and effective provision of aseptically-prepared products that support patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of pharmacy technicians in the aseptic services department
  • Ensure the safe and effective provision of aseptically-prepared products that support patient care
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for aseptic services
  • Provide leadership and guidance to junior pharmacy technicians
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of education and training programs for pharmacy technicians
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless delivery of services
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety

Requirements:

  • National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • SVQ Level III
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Higher National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • Accredited final accuracy checking qualification (PACT - aseptic checking)
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as per GPhC guidance
  • Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in a hospital setting, including time spent in aseptic services
  • Experience in supervising other staff or a functional area of pharmacy
  • Experience in developing and implementing SOPs
  • Experience in delivering induction and competency-based training and assessment
  • Ability to work on and lead a team
  • Ability to prioritize and organize routine daily tasks using own initiative while supervising and leading a team
  • Ability to work under pressure accurately and demonstrate accurate numeracy skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively using clear written and verbal skills
  • Ability to identify and manage risks
  • Participation in departmental weekend and public holiday working
  • Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department

Desirable Qualifications:

  • SVQ assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Experience in line management of staff

Contract Type: Permanent

Contract Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: University Hospital Monklands

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
