The University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow and Cancer Research UK, is excited to announce the availability of positions for highly motivated individuals aiming to advance their careers as clinical academic leaders in the field of cancer research. The TRACC Programme, initiated in 2019, is designed to support the next generation of researchers through doctoral training and mentorship.
Position Overview:
We are offering up to 4 positions for the upcoming intake. Each position includes funding for a full-time, 3-year Clinical Research Training Fellowship, culminating in a PhD from one of our esteemed research centres. Candidates will also receive funding as a TRACC Clinical Lecturer during a preparatory phase of up to 12 months, which combines clinical training (80%) with dedicated research time (20%) to facilitate project planning and supervisor selection.
The Clinical Research Training Fellowship (CRTF) allows for a dedicated research period of 3 years (or longer for part-time candidates), during which candidates will complete their PhD projects. Up to 10% of this time may be allocated for clinical training, contingent upon the candidate's specialty and in agreement with the TRACC leadership team.
Upon successful completion of the PhD, candidates will transition into the role of TRACC Clinical Lecturer, continuing their clinical training while benefiting from ongoing mentorship and protected research time (20%). This support extends until the completion of their clinical training.
Candidate Requirements:
Applicants must possess a UK National Training Number (NTN) or secure a specialty training position with a UK NTN by the specified deadline. Candidates from outside the Scotland Deanery will receive assistance in transferring to the appropriate Deanery. Full GMC registration is mandatory. The TRACC programme is a collaborative initiative between the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow, integrating research efforts across both institutions. Candidates are required to apply through the University of Edinburgh's application system, which will not affect the research centre assignment.
