Clinical Academic Lectureships in Cancer Research

The University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow and Cancer Research UK Scotland, is excited to announce openings for the TRACC Programme. This initiative aims to cultivate the next wave of clinical academic leaders specializing in cancer research. The programme is designed for medically qualified individuals with a strong academic interest in oncology, regardless of their current location within the UK.
Position Overview:
We are offering up to 4 positions for the upcoming intake. Each position includes funding for a comprehensive, full-time Clinical Research Training Fellowship lasting 3 years, culminating in a PhD from one of our prestigious research centres. Additionally, candidates will receive funding as a TRACC Clinical Lecturer during a preparatory phase of up to 12 months, where they will engage in clinical training while also dedicating time to research planning and supervisor selection.
The Clinical Research Training Fellowship (CRTF) allows for a dedicated research period of 3 years (or longer for part-time candidates), during which candidates will work on their PhD projects. A small portion of this time may be allocated for clinical training, tailored to the candidate's specialty and agreed upon with the TRACC leadership.
Upon successful completion of the PhD, candidates will transition into the role of TRACC Clinical Lecturer, continuing their clinical training while benefiting from ongoing mentorship and protected research time until they reach their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
Candidate Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a UK National Training Number (NTN) or secure a specialty training position with a UK NTN prior to the contract start date. Candidates from outside the Scotland Deanery will be supported in their transition through an Inter Deanery Transfer process. Full GMC registration is required.
