About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our Approvals Service directorate, which plays a critical role in facilitating core regulatory services and coordinating quality and continuous improvement activities.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in research regulation and delivery, with experience in managing teams and leading complex projects. They will be responsible for recruiting and supporting Research Ethics Committee and Confidentiality Advisory Group members, as well as developing services with volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Approvals Service directorate, ensuring the delivery of high-quality regulatory services and continuous improvement activities.
  • Recruit and support Research Ethics Committee and Confidentiality Advisory Group members, ensuring their effective engagement and participation.
  • Develop and implement services with volunteers, leveraging their expertise and contributions to enhance the Approvals Service.
  • Collaborate with external partners to improve the research environment, ensuring alignment with national systems, structures, and processes.
  • Provide guidance to applicants, ensuring they understand the requirements and processes for obtaining approvals.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of Research Ethics Committee and Confidentiality Advisory Group members.
Requirements
  • Master's qualification in a relevant field, with a management qualification or extensive experience in a related field.
  • Experience in risk management, quality assurance, and budget management, with a track record of driving efficiencies through process redesign.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects, involving multiple agencies and stakeholders, to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence at senior management/director level.
  • Strong analytical and judgemental skills, with the ability to think strategically and analytically.
