Job Title: Autism Support Assistant

We are seeking an experienced Autism Support Assistant to join our team at a fantastic Sunderland primary school. The ideal candidate will have a passion for assisting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a proven track record of working effectively in a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 support to students with ASD, promoting independence and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Assist with classroom activities, ensuring all students have access to learning opportunities.
  • Support students with challenging behaviors, using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture, promoting social skills and relationships.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with students with ASD, ADHD, PMLD, VI, or HI.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations, using de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Knowledge of SEN legislation and policies, with a commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools).
