About the Role

Skanska, a leading project development and construction group, is seeking a skilled Premises Assistant to join its facilities management team at a school in Canvey Island. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing an excellent customer experience to our Essex Schools project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the onsite premises team in the provision of a caretaking service within the school.
  • Ensure all planned and reactive maintenance is carried out as determined by the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) plan, Helpdesk, and line manager.
  • Monitor and ensure the cleanliness of the school premises and furnishings and report any deficiencies to the Line Manager and Helpdesk.
  • Contribute to the management of CoSHH onsite.
  • Operate the heating plant to maintain the required temperatures and ensure an adequate supply of hot water is available.
  • Support the school and comply with school-based procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident, or major damage.
  • Carry out first-line investigation/repairs and maintenance with continued collaboration with the Line Manager and Helpdesk.
  • Ensure all areas within the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
  • Take delivery of stores, materials, and other goods and convey them to their points of distribution.
  • Comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including Health and Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Follow systems relating to utility meter reading and monitoring.
  • Ensure all caretaking equipment is in a safe and working condition and report any faults to the Line Manager and Helpdesk for repair as appropriate.
  • Prepare the school premises and site for assemblies, meetings, and out-of-school activities and clear up after these activities, providing support as required.
  • Carry out routine and non-routine opening of premises and grounds. Respond to calls outside normal working hours as a result of break-ins, etc., and/or the setting off of the burglar alarm(s).
  • Provide access, where possible, to the premises and classrooms in the event of snow or minor flooding or similar emergency situations.
  • Assist with facilitating the day-to-day management of Sub-contractor activity on site.
  • Ensure safe access and egress on school grounds during periods of inclement weather.
  • Be available for ongoing evening/weekend lettings/school events and have the flexibility to cover occasional lettings that may arise.
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post and grade as may be determined by the Line Manager.
