Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Buyer to join our Headquarters in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire. The successful candidate will manage the procurement of raw materials essential for SEWS-E's manufacturing operations. This role involves overseeing multiple suppliers to ensure that all purchasing requirements align with the operational needs of our manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of automotive commodities across a global supply chain, including both direct and indirect purchases.
  • Research and assess potential alternative suppliers to mitigate business risks.
  • Evaluate supplier bids, recommend selections, and negotiate terms regarding pricing, delivery, quality, and service.
  • Oversee the order process from award to completion.
  • Negotiate resolutions with suppliers concerning material rejections, losses, and returns as necessary.
  • Aim for year-on-year cost reductions.
  • Review and process purchase requisitions to ensure compliance with relevant standards and assist in resolving invoice discrepancies.
  • Lead purchasing initiatives for projects, including mass production components and parts under development.
  • Act as the purchasing liaison among project engineering, purchasing, sales, and manufacturing teams.
  • Contribute to project teams, reporting to the Platform Manager on all project-related activities.
  • Prepare quarterly reports detailing results and progress.

Qualifications

  • Experience within the automotive industry.
  • Familiarity with plastic and rubber components.
  • Technical knowledge related to goods, ideally within warehouse industries.
  • Understanding of manufacturing constraints.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
