Job Summary:

The Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all visitors, staff, and assets within a busy shopping centre. This role involves patrolling the premises, monitoring surveillance equipment, responding to incidents, and providing excellent customer service to maintain a safe shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrolling and Surveillance: Conduct regular foot patrols of the shopping centre, including car parks, to deter criminal activity and ensure a safe environment. Operate and monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and other security equipment to detect and respond to suspicious activities.
  • Incident Response: Quickly and effectively respond to emergencies, including first aid situations, fire alarms, theft, and other security incidents. Escalate issues to the relevant authorities as needed.
  • Access Control: Monitor and control access to restricted areas, ensuring only authorized personnel are allowed entry.
  • Customer Service: Provide assistance and information to visitors and staff, maintaining a visible and approachable presence. Handle lost property and assist in locating missing persons when necessary.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, observations, and patrols. Submit daily activity reports to the Security Supervisor/Manager. Adhere to all company policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements related to security operations.
  • Collaboration and Training: Work closely with law enforcement, emergency services, and shopping centre management to ensure coordinated responses to security issues. Participate in regular training sessions on security procedures, first aid, fire safety, and other relevant topics.

Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence.
    • Previous experience in a security role, preferably within a retail or shopping centre environment.
    • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with CCTV operation and monitoring.
    • Conflict resolution training.
    • Familiarity with the local area and its security challenges.

Working Conditions:

  • Hours: Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods. Ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
