Role Overview
The Sustainability Manager will be responsible for executing the sustainability strategy and meeting client expectations on projects within the London Region.
To fulfill the responsibilities of this role, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Regional Sustainability Manager and construction project teams. Candidates should possess experience in environmental management within the construction sector and demonstrate a commitment to our sustainability strategy, which focuses on four key areas: Carbon Management, Resource Efficiency, Ethical Procurement, and Social Value.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementing our Environmental Management System (EMS) on projects from the tender phase with guidance from the Regional Sustainability Manager.
- Ensuring procurement documentation aligns with the sustainability requirements of the project.
- Conducting regular site audits and surveillance to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Managing projects to minimize carbon emissions and waste while ensuring ethical procurement of goods and services.
- Facilitating understanding of client sustainability requirements across projects, including environmental assessments such as BREEAM and Section 106 agreements.
- Reporting project performance in accordance with Build Sure and client specifications, adhering to company reporting standards.
- Reviewing project outcomes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing necessary changes.
- Effectively communicating our sustainability objectives and achievements to engage the wider staff base.
- Sharing best practices across the business unit.
- Providing training on environmental management and sustainability for project staff and supply chain partners.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in a sustainability or environmental role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of environmental assessment methodologies (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, HQM).
- Ability to technically review and manage the delivery of improved sustainability performance and environmental assessments.
- Experience in managing the delivery of sustainability requirements from preconstruction through to project completion.
