An exciting role has emerged within the Adult Community Nursing Service for a Band 6 Assistant Community Nursing Supervisor to operate within a designated area. The service functions from early morning until evening across the borough.

As an Assistant Community Nursing Supervisor, you will support the Community Team Manager in overseeing a specific caseload, ensuring that comprehensive assessments are conducted by qualified practitioners within the nursing team.

The Trust is committed to nurturing its staff by offering a thorough and extensive training program to enhance your nursing career. Training opportunities include: District Nursing specialist training sponsorship, Non-Medical Prescriber courses, Physical assessment training, Leadership and Management Programs, and developmental training for Band 6 roles, among others.

Main Responsibilities

To assist the Locality Nursing Team Manager in delivering the locality nursing service in accordance with the commissioned service specifications, standards, activities, and outcomes, within a multi-disciplinary locality framework.

Support the Locality Nursing Team Manager in providing leadership and management for the community nursing team, being responsible for the team’s caseload and fostering a skilled, competent, and motivated workforce capable of meeting patient needs.

Take charge of a specific area of nursing practice, as assigned, to ensure that less experienced nurses have access to best practice knowledge and expertise to enhance their clinical practice.

Act in the absence of the Locality Nursing Team Manager, undertaking delegated responsibilities as part of succession planning.

This role will require independent working.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration - Part 1.
  • Relevant post-registration education at diploma/degree level and continuing professional development in areas such as palliative care and tissue viability.

Desirable

  • Diploma or BSc (Hons) in Community Health (District Nursing).
  • Clinical Assessment Skills.
  • Nurse Prescriber V150 (willing to undertake).
  • Mentorship or Preceptorship qualification (willing to undertake).
  • Specialist Practice Teacher/Teaching Qualification.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the effects of mental health conditions, such as dementia and depression, on the management of medical and long-term conditions.
  • Familiarity with professional standards, including confidentiality, clinical governance, and NMC guidelines.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control standards.
  • Risk assessment and management expertise.
  • Awareness of health and safety and personal safety issues.
  • Understanding of safeguarding protocols for adults and children.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Desirable

  • Awareness of current legislation and its implications for this role, including performance indicators and targets.
  • Understanding of the Health and Social Care agenda.

Experience

  • Experience in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating care for patients in their homes.
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience mentoring students.

  • Experience managing resources within a service budget.

  • Core clinical skills in medicines management, including IV administration, venepuncture, continence care, chronic disease management, palliative care, and wound management.
