Baggage Systems Technician

Are you ready to take on the role of Baggage Systems Technician? We are seeking an individual who can assist us in transforming the possibilities within our Engineering division.

The Engineering team is dedicated to delivering essential services. They safeguard, maintain, and repair our critical infrastructure, from the electrical systems that energize our operations to the large mechanical rooms that regulate the airport's climate, as well as specialized equipment on the airfield.

What does the position entail?

Your primary responsibility will be to perform scheduled and responsive maintenance and intervention tasks on all machinery and systems that comprise the baggage handling operations. It is crucial that all tasks are executed to a high standard to maximize operational efficiency. This role requires shift work, including nights and weekends.

This position plays a vital role in supporting baggage operations, with key components including complex conveyor systems, sorting machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT-based control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct planned preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
  • Ensure all engineering and operational documentation is updated to comply with business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
  • Proactively engage in performance enhancement initiatives and programs.
  • Take ownership of safety responsibilities, including the use of personal protective equipment, completing mandatory training, and reporting any incidents or near misses.
  • Utilize GAL IT systems (such as Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as necessary.
  • Enhance skills and knowledge to maintain and operate both existing and new assets, ensuring they are kept in optimal working condition.
  • Participate in role-specific training as required.
  • Work in both passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, as this role does not have direct reports.

  • Demonstrated experience in a relevant engineering field.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Capability to implement system performance improvements.
  • Qualified as an Engineer.
  • Familiarity with 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
  • Possession of a valid driving license.
