Harbor Operations Assistant

Reports to: Port Manager

Contract: Permanent

Compensation: £12.07

Location: Colonsay

Weekly Hours: 1 x 14 hours per week in Summer, 10 hours per week in Winter

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the flow of passengers and vehicles boarding and disembarking from vessels by providing clear instructions

• Handle the sale and validation of passenger and vehicle tickets

• Coordinate service disruption protocols

• Address emergency situations during non-standard hours

• Execute all tasks related to ship movements, gangway operations, and vessel securing

• Oversee car marshalling

• Respond to customer inquiries

• Maintain statistical records and data consolidation

• Operate VHF and PA systems

• Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Port Manager

Required Skills and Experience
Essential Qualifications

• Strong understanding of CalMac services

• Proficient in computer usage, with excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Customer-focused with a proactive approach to service

• Ability to commute to and from the Colonsay Ferry Terminal daily

• Valid UK Driving License

• Flexibility to work shifts and weekends

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently

• Team-oriented in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with VHF and PA systems

• Ability to collaborate effectively with other port personnel to ensure seamless communication and coordination
