Job Description

Job Title: Patient Safety Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patient Safety Manager to join our team at South Central Ambulance Service NHS. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a high-quality process for investigating patient safety incidents and identifying learning opportunities to improve the quality of care provided by the Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate patient safety incidents using a systems-based approach to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
  • Work with Service Line Representatives to identify learning opportunities and changes in practice that need to occur to prevent or reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence of similar incidents.
  • Produce high-quality reports that identify learning opportunities and changes in practice required.
  • Feedback learning opportunities to relevant governance groups and Service Line teams to progress changes in training, development, and policy.
  • Establish links with all specialties within the Trust to ensure that each specialty cooperates and engages with investigations.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience of working in a similar environment.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of NHS complaints management and best practice, including relevant legislation, ethics, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g., Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Caldicott Regulations, NHSE Patient Safety Strategy, Duty of Candour, and Health and Safety Acts, and appropriate Risk Management guidelines and protocols, etc.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, supporting, and motivating individuals and a team in a similar working environment.
  • Evidence of applications of systems-based investigations.
  • Experience of working with information/data, analyzing, evaluating, and presenting evidence following sound research methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge and application of relevant audit and evaluation methodologies and statistical procedures, both qualitative and quantitative.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating skills in meaningful engagement with patients and families, negotiation, empathy, and persuasion.

  • Able to multi-task while maintaining high levels of attention to detail and project progression management.
