Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator at Gads Hill Center is responsible for delivering comprehensive early childhood education services to children in a safe, nurturing environment. This position requires collaboration with the teaching team to provide a seamless educational experience for children, planning and implementing structured educational activities based on program curriculum, and ensuring adherence to licensing standards and funder requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the teaching team to create a classroom environment that reflects diversity, cultures, and languages, and adapts teaching to meet the needs of children.
  • Prepare attendance records, lesson plans, and child development files, maintaining confidentiality of family records and information.
  • Document children's growth and development using written observations, photography, and assessment tools.
  • Utilize developmental screening tools to determine individual needs of children and assist in individualizing the curriculum.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss lesson planning, reporting requirements, and individual needs of children.
  • Attend and engage in professional development opportunities, such as staff meetings, in-service trainings, and conferences.
  • Collaboratively plan developmentally-appropriate activities for small and large groups that address the needs identified in assessments.
  • Develop and build positive relationships with parents/guardians by greeting them and communicating with them, as well as providing experiences that enhance their roles as their child's primary influence in growth and development.
  • Utilize the assistance of the Family Support Staff, Mental Health Consultant, and other professionals to assist and refer parents to community resources.
  • Encourage parents to become involved in the classroom, as well as the Parent Committee and Policy Committee.
  • Conduct and participate in home visits twice per year at the designated time.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DCFS, Head Start, and Preschool for All standards and implement them in all aspects of work.
  • Understand and adhere to NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and Code of Ethics.
  • Conduct, document, and follow up on daily child health checks.
  • Participate in annual parent orientation/open house at least twice per year.
  • Actively supervise and interact with all students in their care at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education with at least 6 credit hours in Infants/Toddlers in Early Childhood Education.
  • Illinois Gateways Infant Toddler Level 4 credential. Illinois Gateways Infant Toddler Level 5 preferred.
  • One year previous direct early childhood classroom experience with low-income families.
  • Experience with multi-cultural programming preferred.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
  • A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (average child's weight).

Position Details:

Entry Salary: $38,000 - $45,000/year

Schedule: Full-time
