About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Product Line Architect to join our Fuzing Systems team at Thales. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for defining and implementing the technical architecture of our Fuzing Systems products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of product architecture and technical roadmaps for Fuzing Systems products.
  • Analyse product requirements and define technical solutions that meet customer needs while balancing schedule, cost, and maintainability objectives.
  • Work closely with the Chief Technologist Fuzing Systems and Missile Electronics Technical Director to ensure that product architecture solutions are technically feasible and compatible with future needs.
  • Define and manage Product Line Engineering, product variability, commonality, and re-use across the product line and throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Maximise re-use of common building blocks and technology across the Fuzing Product Line.
  • Prepare the technical part of the Product Plan, including product technical definition, architecture, and building blocks, technical roadmap, R&D budget requirements, and competition products technical analysis.
  • Support the strategy and preparation of fuzing research bids and estimates to secure external funding.
  • Act as PDA and Research Project Manager for key customer-funded fuzing studies of strategic importance, acting as the Thales primary interface with the customer.
  • Alert the Missile Electronics Business Lead and Technical Director to technical issues arising in the Product Line.
  • Participate in system-level design reviews of products being developed within the Product Line.
  • Have the right to participate in Engineering reviews, technical meetings, or peer reviews during the fuze bid or project.
  • Participate in Fuzing Product Decision Reviews.
  • Work closely with Fuzing Design Authority and associated Project Design Authorities (PDAs).
  • Verify the implementation of the Product Policy (including PLE) by the PDA during the Product Bid & Development Phase.
About You
  • Experience in the architecture definition and specification of Electronic Safe & Arm Fuzing Systems for guided weapons, required to operate in harsh environments.
  • Aware of the relevant Fuzing standards (e.g. STANAG 4187) and their application to the design and architecture of Fuzing Systems.
  • Experience in the architecture definition and specification of lidar/radar Proximity Sensors for Fuzing applications in guided weapons, required to operate in harsh environments.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in either Electronics or in Physics.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in compiling quality presentation material and presenting clearly to customers and at conferences.
