About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Product Line Architect to join our team at Thales, specializing in Fuzing Systems. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for architecting the next generation of products, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture of Fuzing Product Line, defining technical solutions and roadmaps throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Analyze product needs and requirements to identify the best trade-off between schedule, cost, maintainability, and risks.
  • Work closely with the Chief Technologist Fuzing Systems and Missile Electronics Technical Director to ensure technical feasibility and compliance with future needs.
  • Define and manage Product Line Engineering, product variability, commonality, and re-use across the Product line.
  • Maximize re-use of common building blocks/technology across the Fuzing Product Line.
  • Prepare the technical part of the Product Plan, including product technical definition, architecture, and building blocks.
  • Support the strategy and preparation of fuzing research bids and estimates to secure external funding.
  • Act as PDA and Research Project manager for key customer-funded fuzing studies of strategic importance.
  • Alert the Missile Electronics Business Lead and Technical Director to technical issues arising in the Product Line.
  • Participate in system-level design reviews of products being developed within the Product Line.
  • Have the right to participate in Engineering reviews, technical meetings, or peer reviews during the fuze bid or project.
  • Participate in Fuzing Product Decision Reviews.
  • Work closely with Fuzing Design Authority and associated Project Design Authorities (PDAs).
  • Verify the implementation of the Product Policy by the PDA during the Product Bid & Development Phase.
About You
  • Experienced in the architecture definition and specification of Electronic Safe & Arm Fuzing Systems for guided weapons, required to operate in harsh environments.
  • Aware of the relevant Fuzing standards (e.g. STANAG 4187) and their application to the design and architecture of Fuzing Systems.
  • Experienced in the architecture definition and specification of lidar/radar Proximity Sensors for Fuzing applications in guided weapons, required to operate in harsh environments.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in either Electronics or in Physics.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in compiling quality presentation material and presenting clearly to customers and at conferences.
Desirable Skills
  • Experienced in the detailed design of electronic safety logic circuitry and high voltage charging and firing circuits.
  • Experienced / familiar with the use of programmable logic devices in safety systems.
  • Aware of EMC requirements and related design practices to achieve compliance.
  • Experienced in the specification, design, and development of Proximity Fuzing Sensors for guided weapons, employing miniature lidar and/or radar technologies.
  • Appreciation of design for test and manufacturing processes.
  • Experienced in both Safe & Arm Units and Proximity Fuzing Sensors is desirable but not essential if the candidate has sound knowledge in one of the two areas.
Security Clearance

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance.
