About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Operate company vehicles in accordance with UK Road Traffic Act 1988 and Road Safety Act 2006.
  • Wear and maintain issued personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, reporting any issues to the line manager.
  • Utilize mobile devices for recording work and patrols undertaken.
  • Identify and report defects or reactive jobs that could lead to accidents.
  • Communicate effectively using two-way radio equipment with the control room or site team.
  • Participate in site emergency management plans, including fire evacuation procedures.
  • Recognize areas for improvement and inform the site supervisor or management team.
  • Collect waste from designated areas at scheduled times.
  • Collect bulk recycling waste from lift lobbies throughout the day or upon request.
  • Ensure glass and food bins are placed in the undercroft service road daily and collected from the back of units on collection day.
  • Properly segregate general waste for disposal in the service road compactor.
  • Store cardboard and poly waste neatly in the holding area until bailed and then stack on pallets.
  • Remove and dispose of bulk refuse in the correct skip.
  • Operate forklifts in the loading bays, removing recyclable materials and supporting site teams.
  • Sort waste by hand or machine, removing recyclables and inspecting materials for contamination.
  • Use and operate waste compacting equipment, including bailers and compactors.
  • Store hazardous waste, including WEEE, light bulbs, paint pots, aerosols, oils, and printer cartridges, in designated receptacles.
  • Maintain the North and South Service Roads free of refuse at all times.
  • Keep the South Loading Bay clean and tidy, free of spillages, and perform weekly housekeeping.
  • Ensure each unit has the correct number of recycling and refuse bins, as advised by the fire officer.
  • Steam clean general and food waste bins and floors weekly using a hot jet washer.
  • Be flexible to work on early and late shifts, and be prepared for occasional forced shift changes with 24 hours' notice.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete tasks to a high level.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety standards in the industry.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to use machinery, including jet washers, bailers, compactors, and hand pallet pump trucks.
  • Flexibility to work on early and late shifts.
