Job Description

Role Overview

GSL Education is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team in Colchester. As a Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering tailored support for students with SEMH needs, working closely with teachers to monitor and assess student progress.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, addressing their individual needs and implementing strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to support student development and contribute to the development of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management plans.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, with a strong understanding of SEMH issues and a commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude, with a commitment to professional development and learning.
