About the Role

The Institute Manager is a key professional staff position within the Institute of Classical Studies and the wider School of Advanced Study. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Institute, working closely with the ICS Director, the Librarian of the Combined Classics Library, and other academic and professional staff across the School to achieve the Institute's mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the Institute's administrative functions, including budgeting, human resources, and facilities management.
  • Provide administrative support to the ICS Director and other senior staff, including preparing reports, presentations, and other materials.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of the Institute's resources and operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and teams within the School to promote the Institute's research and teaching activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff and students, including training and development opportunities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academics, researchers, and support staff.
  • Experience of working in a higher education environment, preferably in a research-intensive institution.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles, with the ability to prepare and manage budgets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
