GBS Global Applied Knowledge is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Head of Student Retention to join our team in Leeds. This role plays a vital part in supporting and retaining students, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to succeed.

Reporting directly to the Head of Student Retention, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Student Retention Team, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes student well-being and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Student Retention Team, ensuring alignment with GBS's overall goals.
  • Represent the Student Retention Team to internal and external stakeholders, acting as a liaison between departments and fostering strong relationships.
  • Line manage Senior Retention Managers, setting clear performance expectations, monitoring progress, and providing guidance and support.
  • Collaborate closely with faculties and operational departments to develop and implement effective student retention strategies.
  • Work proactively with stakeholders to identify at-risk students and provide tailored interventions to enhance their engagement and academic success.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate actions are taken for students with poor attendance, in accordance with GBS policies and partner requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculties to support students facing challenges with assessments, facilitating resubmissions and promoting academic progress.
  • Analyze student retention data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to senior management, informing strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Mentor and develop Student Retention Team members, providing ongoing training and support to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Promote a culture of best practices within the team, adhering to professional guidelines when interacting with students.
  • Manage staff performance, conducting annual reviews and providing constructive feedback to foster growth and development.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of student retention services, evaluating their impact on student progression and course completion rates.
Qualifications:
  • Substantial experience in student retention and support within a higher education setting.
  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification with a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practices.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, adapting messages for clarity and accessibility.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software.
