About the Role

Metro is seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual to join our team as an Ocean Freight Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, and suppliers to negotiate and confirm rates effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rate Negotiation and Confirmation: Negotiate rates with carriers, hauliers, and suppliers to maximize cost-effectiveness.
  • Customer Quotations: Receive customer quotations via various methods and prepare and submit customer quotations and proposals within agreed timeframes.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and build relationships with customers to provide the highest level of customer service and ensure smooth handover of secured shipments.
  • Tariff Management: Produce strategic tariffs to ensure effective workload and ensure these tariffs are kept up to date and relevant.
  • Operational Monitoring: Monitor carrier websites and notifications to stay informed about industry developments.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote continuous improvement and engage with ocean freight operational teams to ensure smooth handover of secured shipments.
Requirements
  • Industry Knowledge: Industry and operational knowledge of Ocean freight - inbound, outbound, and cross trade.
  • Numerical and Commercial Skills: Strong numerical and commercial skills, with the ability to influence profitability through effective pricing.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure to meet fixed deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: Excellent usage of computer/operating system (Microsoft Windows) along with other office applications (Microsoft Office) (Cargowise - preferable).
  • Personal Qualities: Proactive, team worker with excellent time management and organization skills, enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated.
