Job Title: Ocean Freight Specialist

At Metro, we are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Ocean Freight Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, and suppliers to negotiate and confirm rates effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive customer quotations via various methods and negotiate rates with carriers and suppliers to maximize cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare and submit customer quotations and proposals within agreed timeframes.
  • Work within our in-house system to create and issue quotations.
  • Communicate with customers to manage and follow up on all quotes to obtain feedback and measure success.
  • Track success/failure rates of quotes and report back to management.
  • Develop and build relationships with customers to provide the highest level of service.
  • Monitor carrier websites and notifications to stay up-to-date on industry developments.
  • Promote continuous improvement and engage with ocean freight operational teams to ensure smooth handovers of secured shipments.

Requirements:

  • Industry and operational knowledge of ocean freight, including inbound, outbound, and cross-trade.
  • Understanding of how to influence profitability through effective pricing.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and possess strong numerical and commercial skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Proactive, team worker with excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated individual.
