Job Title: Specialist Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology (Blood Sciences) Department at Cambridge University Hospitals. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality diagnostic services and contributing to the development of our laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process specialist investigations in the department
  • Provide specialist advice to clinicians on test appropriateness and timescales
  • Offer specialist services, including training and problem-solving
  • Work independently and lead on specialist areas as directed by the Lead BMS
  • Act as a mentor for junior scientific and support staff
  • Work flexibly to meet service needs, including extended working hours and participation in a 24/7 service
  • Supervise and train less experienced staff in your area of work
  • Adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain and promote a professional image of the CUH Trust
  • Lead and supervise a section of the laboratory as required
Requirements:
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Biomedical Science degree or equivalent
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Substantial practical experience in a Biomedical Science laboratory
  • Experience with Pathology IT systems
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems
  • Experience in training and supervising staff
  • Previous relevant experience in a Haematology Laboratory
