Mental Health Assessment Specialist

Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Devon County Council is actively seeking full-time Mental Health Assessment Specialists to enhance our dedicated team.

(We are open to considering applications for part-time positions as well.)

About Us

In light of our recent innovative in-house restructuring, we are thrilled to unveil a groundbreaking model for our out-of-hours services within Devon County Council.
The out-of-hours Mental Health Assessment Service is crucial for responding to urgent requests for evaluations under the Mental Health Act. This role entails assessing and prioritizing workloads to make informed decisions regarding assessments, in accordance with the statutory obligations of Devon County Council.
This newly established specialized out-of-hours service will collaborate with a distinct Emergency Duty Service (EDS), which addresses referrals for both Children and Adults within a joint social care framework.
Launched recently, this revised service focuses on implementing specialized service models for our three primary EDS areas (Adults, Children, and Mental Health), aiming to enhance and streamline collaborative efforts.
This initiative is backed by significant new investments and staffing enhancements to ensure improvements in the services provided to residents of Devon. The expansion of the AMHP workforce, along with the introduction of AMHP managers during out-of-hours, will foster a more supportive working environment and increase our capacity to meet the growing demand for this vital service.

Rota Structure

The successful candidate will follow an 8-week rolling rota, which includes two consecutive weeks off during each cycle. The shift schedule comprises weekday evenings, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts, both day and night.
To facilitate two consecutive weeks off in each cycle, annual leave and bank holiday entitlements are integrated into the rota. This structure allows for an average of 13 weeks off each year.
Each of the six scheduled working weeks includes between two to five days off, with each week featuring two consecutive days off. Employees will have contracted hours allocated for team meetings, supervision, training, and other essential tasks during standard office hours.

About You

If you are interested in contributing to the development of an innovative service and meet the following criteria, we encourage you to consider this opportunity:

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered qualified professional (Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist)
  • Currently authorized as an AMHP (Post-Graduate Certificate in Mental Health)
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of complex and specialized legislation including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Children Act, and relevant case law
  • Valid driving license
  • Experience in independently conducting Mental Health Act assessments
  • Proven experience in multi-disciplinary environments.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience as an AMHP with extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and mental health social work practices

What We Offer
