Rochester, Medway, United Kingdom Peregrine Full time
Job Overview

Peregrine is seeking skilled and experienced Principal/Lead Mechanical Engineers to contribute to the advancement of a diverse array of cutting-edge products.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position is to deliver expert Mechanical Engineering guidance for the design and development of innovative solutions, alongside troubleshooting and optimizing existing products.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will spearhead innovation and provide technical leadership to fellow Engineers and Technicians, transforming concepts into detailed designs backed by calculations and documentation to ensure compliance with specifications. The role demands delivering high-quality services to clients, adhering to timelines and budgets with minimal oversight, and effectively communicating design details to esteemed clients.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Utilizing extensive product knowledge and advanced engineering principles to create design concepts and solutions from the ground up, fulfilling project and client needs, supported by sketches, calculations, and relevant data.
  • Developing and presenting clear Mechanical Development Plans, Design Scheme Data Packs, and other engineering documentation for both internal assessments and client discussions.
  • Assuming a Design Authority role by reviewing and approving datasets (drawings/MBD) to ensure they meet required standards, accurately reflect design intent, and sufficiently define components for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Taking charge of design risk management, identifying, defining, and overseeing work packages to mitigate risks early in the product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in validating and verifying requirements using suitable tools (e.g., DOORS) and managing these throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Collaborating across all engineering disciplines, engaging with technical specialists as necessary.
  • Overseeing the work of senior and junior mechanical engineers and technicians, ensuring technical accountability for design solutions and technical data packs produced, while tracking completed work against time and cost constraints.
  • Conducting Design Authority level reviews of other mechanical engineers' work, including designs, design data, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with departmental and company policies and procedures among Engineers and Technicians.
  • Assisting Team Leads, Projects, and Mechanical Functional Managers in estimating future design tasks.
  • Potential travel may be required to represent the company, delivering presentations and conducting product installation assessments.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.

Candidates must meet the UK-SPEC requirements at the Chartered Engineer Level.

Extensive experience in the complete product design lifecycle, from concept to production, within an engineering context is essential.

Experience in preparing technical datasets (drawings/MBD) and design review documentation is required.

Proficiency in CAD tools for design model preparation is necessary.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in areas such as avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, and additive manufacturing will be advantageous.

Familiarity with dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis tools, along with the ability to validate their outputs, is a plus.

Experience in leading mechanical or cross-discipline design teams is desirable.

Existing or previous SC level clearance is beneficial.

Proficiency in the CREO CAD system, as well as experience with Team Center, DOORS, and JIRA, would be advantageous.
