Job Title: Highly Specialist Speech Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech Therapist to join our team as a Highly Specialist Speech Therapist. The successful candidate will have a strong background in managing head and neck cancer patients and will be able to work autonomously in a community setting.

About the Role

The Highly Specialist Speech Therapist will be responsible for providing highly specialist clinical management of patients with head and neck cancer referred to the community team. This will involve assessing, diagnosing, developing, implementing, and evaluating specialized treatment programs.

The successful candidate will also participate in team decision-making regarding the organization and prioritization of the clinical caseload and will work within the multidisciplinary team framework to provide coordinated multi-disciplinary care for the benefit of all patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide highly specialist clinical management of patients with head and neck cancer
  • Assess, diagnose, develop, implement, and evaluate specialized treatment programs
  • Participate in team decision-making regarding the organization and prioritization of the clinical caseload
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team framework to provide coordinated multi-disciplinary care
  • Interpret and utilize the findings of investigations such as videofluoroscopy/FEES to design specialized therapeutic programs of care
Requirements
  • Diploma/Degree leading to RCSLT license to practice
  • Registered Member HCPC
  • Masters or equivalent level of post-graduate specialist training short courses, specific training, and membership of National CEN relevant to head and neck cancer
  • Attendance at advanced dysphagia training including videofluoroscopy interpretation
  • Significant specialist experience working with adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing, including working with head and neck patients in acute/community environments
  • Significant experience of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways, and using outcome measures
