Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Speech and Language Therapist to lead our school-based communication and dysphagia service for children and young people with severe learning difficulties, including profound and multiple learning difficulties.

About the Role

This is a highly specialist role that requires a strong clinical background in speech and language therapy, with a focus on paediatric dysphagia and communication interventions. The successful candidate will work closely with school staff and the multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-quality service to children and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention to children with complex needs, dysphagia, and/or speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Liaising with the multidisciplinary team and working collaboratively with parents and other professionals to support children and their families.
  • Developing and implementing specialist programmes of care, including communication interventions and dysphagia management.
  • Providing clinical supervision, line management, and peer review to other Speech and Language Therapists and students.
  • Contributing to the development of policies and procedures related to clinical care, evidence-based practice, and care pathways.
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy and registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Current registered membership of the Health and Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Further study in clinical fields, including completion of short courses and additional study.
  • Evidence of competency level C or above of the RCSLT Dysphagia Competency Framework.
