Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced urban designer to join our team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. As an Urban Design Tools Manager, you will play a key role in developing and implementing innovative tools and products to support better design and placemaking.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new organisation that is shaping the future of placemaking in the UK. You will work closely with our team to deliver a range of projects, including the development of digital design code elements, consultation exercises with the sector, and the launch and maintenance of our digital design code library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bring urban design expertise to support the delivery of relevant and useful urban design digital tools
  • Deliver consultation exercises with the sector on emerging tools
  • Support the launch and maintenance of the digital design code library
  • Provide expert design advice and support to local planning authorities and Office for Place officials
  • Represent the Office for Place at external sector events
  • Work closely with external stakeholders to ensure that our work is relevant to the needs of local authority planning officers
Person Specification

We are looking for an experienced urban designer with a qualification in town planning, urban design, or architecture. You will have relevant professional experience in urban design and planning at a strategic scale, and knowledge of national development, planning and placemaking issues. You will also have demonstrable experience of working in or closely with a local planning authority, and experience developing and implementing design codes is beneficial but not essential.
