The North Middlesex University Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and motivated midwife to join our team as a Preterm Birth Specialist Midwife. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a meaningful contribution to the care of women and babies at high risk of preterm birth.
Main Responsibilities- Provide expert care to women at high risk of preterm birth, adhering to Trust guidelines and national standards.
- Lead on implementing and monitoring compliance with Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle No. 5 – Reducing Preterm Birth.
- Triage referrals and ensure the allocation of patients to appropriate care pathways.
- Share information of normal and abnormal results with patients and provide counseling and support where needed.
- Ensure that all patients attending our service have appropriate follow-up care in place.
- Review the existing provision of the Preterm birth service to ensure the infrastructure delivers a service that is equitable, evidence-based, and consistent with local and national policies.
- Utilize highly developed communication skills to ensure a high-quality routine service and timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
- Provide clinical and professional leadership and support to the pre-term birth and bereavement service.
- Be a knowledgeable and supportive team leader while being a resource for staff advising on national, local, and Trust policy, procedure, and guidelines.
- Ensure that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
- Facilitate the dissemination of information and the sharing of good practice.
- Assist with coordinating the multi-disciplinary governance meeting and take an active lead in regular program performance and MDT meetings.
- Be responsible for the maintenance and development of her/his clinical skills.
- Be responsible for devising and disseminating evidence-based standards, multidisciplinary guidelines, and policies for Preterm birth.
- Develop tools to assess and audit the efficiency of service provision and quality standards in the preterm birth service.
- Be responsible for delivering local training and education programs.
- Utilize and ensure others utilize information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data.
- Be a link named contact for patients who are transferred into or out of the North Middlesex University Hospital.
- Leading on the development of QI projects related to PTB such as BAPM extreme prematurity and perinatal optimization toolkit, matneosip.
- Registered midwife.
- Diploma or degree in midwifery.
- All-round midwifery skills.
- Knowledge of relevant national standards and guidelines.
- Awareness of Government and political influence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills and to be able to make appropriate decisions in an emergency.
- Ability to present information to a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations/people and manage conflict.
- Participate in research and clinical audit.
- Good knowledge of IT and use of keyboard skills.
- Extensive clinical experience practicing within a clinical area.
- To be able to take responsibility for a clinical caseload, including decision-making, use of initiative, and awareness of professional limitations.
- Experience in leadership or management responsibilities.
- Participation in clinical research or audit.
- Any skills which may complement or enhance the preterm birth or bereavement service.
The ideal candidate will be a registered midwife with a diploma or degree in midwifery and all-round midwifery skills. They will have knowledge of relevant national standards and guidelines, awareness of Government and political influence, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate will also have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, ability to present information to a multidisciplinary team, and ability to deal with difficult situations/people and manage conflict.
The candidate will have extensive clinical experience practicing within a clinical area, be able to take responsibility for a clinical caseload, and have experience in leadership or management responsibilities. They will also have participated in clinical research or audit and have any skills which may complement or enhance the preterm birth or bereavement service.
