Job Overview

The Preterm Birth Midwife will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to women at risk of preterm birth. This individual will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients, providing emotional support, and ensuring that care is evidence-based and monitored.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide care within the preterm birth service, adhering to both Trust Guidelines and national standards.
  • Ensure that the preterm birth service is offered and delivered appropriately to the cohort of patients who are at high risk of preterm birth.
  • Regularly liaise with multi-agency stakeholders delivering quality improvements to the service and development of appropriate pathways.
  • Take responsibility for KEY performance Indicators and report writing to demonstrate compliance with a variety of care quality indicators.
  • Participate with education and training in relation to preterm birth.
  • Lead/participate in research trials that are appropriate to the service.
  • Lead on audits that are appropriate to the service.
  • Develop own management and leadership skills.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Registered midwife
  • Diploma or degree in midwifery
  • All-round midwifery skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Teaching and presentation skills

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant national standards and guidelines
  • Awareness of Government and political influence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills and to be able to make appropriate decisions in an emergency
  • Be able to present information to a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations/people and manage conflict
  • Participate in research and clinical audit
  • Good knowledge of IT and use of keyboard skills

Experience

  • Extensive clinical experience practicing within a clinical area
  • To be able to take responsibility for a clinical caseload, including decision-making, use of initiative, and awareness of professional limitations
  • Experience in leadership or management responsibilities
  • Participation in clinical research or audit
  • Any skills which may complement or enhance the preterm birth or bereavement service

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the practices of the equality and inclusion in the delivery of this role
  • Ability to work within a team working environment

  • Can work in an outpatient setting
