About the Role

Armstrong Knight is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Head of Finance to join their team. As a key member of the internal property management division, this role will report to the Head of Finance and be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounts and credit control teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Management: Manage a team of 8 direct reports and 3 indirect reports, ensuring effective leadership and mentorship to drive team performance.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Prepare monthly management accounts, year-end packs for auditors, and draft year-end service charge accounts for complex sites.
  • Financial Control: Ensure strong financial controls are observed, and reconciliations are performed regularly.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Liaise with external certifying accountants, leaseholders, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolution of financial matters.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare monthly analysis of debtors by site and cost type, and interpret this analysis for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Forecasting and Budgeting: Forecast staffing and utility costs as part of budget preparation and mid-year revision.
  • Ad-hoc Reporting: Prepare ad-hoc reports as required by leaseholders or internal stakeholders.
  • Payment and VAT Management: Check and approve payments on Barclays, and oversee the team in the preparation of VAT Returns and Trust Tax Returns.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Fully qualified ACCA or equivalent.
  • Experience: Significant service charge accounting experience, with a strong understanding of lease structure and aptitude to read and interpret a range of leases and legal documents.
  • Skills: Advanced Excel, ability to delegate, supervise, and develop junior members of staff, understanding of data security including GDPR.
  • Personal Qualities: Positive attitude, flexibility, confidence, ability to work under pressure, and prioritize workload, passionate about clients and customer-first approach.
