Operating Department Practitioner

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Operating Department Practitioner to join our team.
As an Operating Department Practitioner, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care within the operating theatre environment. You will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient surgical procedures.
Responsibilities- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring accurate instrument handling and a sterile field.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including administering pre-operative medications and monitoring vital signs.
- Provide post-operative care to patients, assisting with recovery and pain management.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Essential Criteria:
- Full-time availability
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with City & Guilds 752, NVQ (ODP) Level 3, or Diploma in Higher Education in Operating Department Practice.
- NMC or HCPC registration
- Experience in Operating Department Practice/peri-operative setting. Registered staff from other areas may be considered depending on experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels within and outside the Trust.
- Ability to communicate with patients (and their relatives or carers) who may have a range of complex health care issues, and a variety of sensory/communication/physical/mental health/language needs.
- Sound knowledge of theatre practice and perioperative issues.
- Working knowledge of the NHS and its structures/procedures.
- Working and practical knowledge of theatre-specific and monitoring equipment.
- Teaching ability and support of all learners/new staff.
- IT skills.
- Time Management.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Planning and organisation skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- MSIPP/ENB998
- Experience in Operating Department Practice/peri-operative setting.
- Counselling skills.
- Post-registration education.
- Knowledge of research and audit.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020, and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
