Behaviour Support Assistant

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Assistant to work within a secondary educational setting.

The ideal candidate will be instrumental in aiding students who face emotional and behavioural challenges, ensuring they can fully participate in their learning experience.

You will collaborate with educators, families, and external professionals to develop customized support strategies that cater to the unique needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Engage directly with students exhibiting challenging behaviours or needing extra emotional assistance. Provide individualized support as well as facilitate small group sessions.
  • Behavioural Management: Apply effective behaviour management techniques within the classroom and during extracurricular activities. Contribute to a positive educational atmosphere by encouraging appropriate behaviour and social skills.
  • Progress Monitoring: Continuously evaluate and document student progress, noting changes in behaviour and academic achievement. Offer constructive feedback to educators and participate in IEP reviews.
  • Crisis Management: Be equipped to respond effectively in crisis situations, employing de-escalation strategies as required.
  • Inclusion Promotion: Cultivate an inclusive environment where every student feels appreciated and supported. Encourage involvement in school activities that enhance social engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with children or adolescents, especially those with behavioural issues or special educational needs.
  • Solid understanding of child development principles and behaviour management techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to quickly establish rapport with students from various backgrounds.
  • A proactive mindset towards problem-solving and conflict resolution.

All remuneration rates mentioned will include statutory holiday pay. This position is temporary, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role in the future.
