The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Synthetic Chemist to join our team at our state-of-the-art Advanced Research Centre on the University of Glasgow campus. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing expert insights and know-how for the synthesis and reaction optimization of chemical reactions.

You will work closely with our laboratory operations team to develop and implement efficient, automated, and versatile chemical manufacturing processes. Your expertise will be essential in leading the synthesis of complex molecules and collaborating with our business development, commercial, and management teams to ensure the successful execution of our scientific projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design and execute synthetic procedures on milligram and gram scale to support our product development needs and compound sales.
  • Collaborate with our laboratory operation team to maximize the overall effectiveness of synthetic campaigns.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the laboratory related to the successful execution of chemistry.
  • Communicate transparently with our Business Development, Commercial, and Leadership team to brainstorm and agree upon the best path to provide company and partner value through advanced chemistry.
  • Plan and execute scientific or technical projects, including the development of processes and reaction conditions.
  • Work with our engineering and software teams to develop modules of our automation platform and execute test plans for hardware revisions and software updates.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of practical experience as a synthetic chemist, ideally holding a PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry.
  • Deep expertise in specific areas of synthetic chemistry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills (English fluency).
  • Retrosynthetic analysis skills.
  • Experience leading a small team of chemists or leading/managing synthesis projects.
  • Experience with robotic systems for synthetic chemistry.
  • Experience with electronic tools such as Electronic Laboratory Notebooks, etc.
