Position Overview

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in respiratory care to serve as a vital resource, providing guidance, education, and support for individuals managing chronic respiratory conditions.

This role involves conducting comprehensive assessments, offering advice, and delivering educational support through specialized clinics and home visits for patients in need of respiratory and/or oxygen evaluations.

The individual will report to the Health Board through the Line Manager and Clinical Lead, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with established policies, standards, and guidelines from relevant regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed individual will be expected to:

  1. Collaborate effectively within a Multi-Disciplinary Team and with other healthcare professionals to maintain a consistently high standard of service across the Health Board.
  2. Provide expert advice, utilizing clinical knowledge to guide decision-making processes related to patient care.
  3. Support initiatives aimed at eliminating interagency barriers and foster strong professional relationships with health and social care providers to enhance communication and collaborative practices.
  4. Operate independently, making informed clinical decisions within their scope of practice while managing a caseload that adapts to the evolving demands of the service.
  5. Assume responsibility for a designated caseload, working closely with patients and the Multi-Disciplinary Team to optimize care pathways and facilitate timely discharges.
  6. Assist the Team Lead in the judicious use of resources within budgetary constraints, including the authorization of expenditures.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse or Health Care Professional.
  • A degree in Nursing or a related health field, or equivalent experience.
  • A specialist postgraduate qualification in respiratory care or comparable experience.
  • Experience in proactive management of a diverse patient caseload, particularly those with chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Significant clinical experience in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for the designated patient group.
  • A thorough understanding of current nursing and therapy issues within NHS care systems.
  • Strong knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and professional standards.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems for communication and documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency team and engage positively with caregivers.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex negotiations across care boundaries.
  • A commitment to professionalism, compassion, and respect in all interactions.
  • Capability to inspire and motivate team members through effective communication.
  • Knowledge and skills to manage patients with intricate needs.
  • Proven ability to implement changes effectively and work under pressure.
  • Resilience and stamina in a demanding environment.
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to travel as required.

Desirable Attributes

  • Independent Prescribing qualification.
  • Progress towards an MSc through a modular or substantive course approach.
  • Experience in management or leadership roles.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh.
  • Skills to critically assess concerns and produce clear reports.
