As part of the Applus+ Laboratories group, Applus+ 3C Test Ltd is a pioneering testing facility located at Silverstone Technology Park, specializing in compliance with international standards to support our clientele in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), vibration, and environmental testing.

We are currently seeking an ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING LABORATORY SUPERVISOR. The individual in this role will be tasked with managing multiple testing projects and designing climatic and vibration tests tailored to client specifications. Our laboratory provides a range of testing services including altitude, salt corrosion, vibration & shock, climatic, and electrical testing for high voltage components, including batteries. This position offers significant growth opportunities compared to joining an established team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate testing projects upon receiving directives from the Lab Manager and Sales team.
  • Collaborate with customer representatives to resolve technical inquiries and ensure alignment.
  • Design the necessary instrumentation and control strategies for each project test, adhering to the 3C Test Technical Procedures and the quality manual, ensuring compliance with ISO17025 standards audited by UKAS.
  • Oversee and mentor environmental test engineers and technicians.
  • Conduct test setups and execute tests until the ramp-up phase is complete.
  • Provide updates on testing project status to clients.
  • Generate test project reports and submit them to the Technical Manager for evaluation.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new testing equipment, calibration, and supplier management.
  • Monitor the functionality of testing equipment and cables, reporting any failures.
  • Identify laboratory equipment needs and communicate them to the Laboratory Supervisor for procurement.
  • Take immediate action and report any health and safety violations.
  • Adhere to 5S standards and maintain a proactive approach to work.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualifications include an engineering degree; however, candidates with HNC/HND / NVQ level 4 in Mechanical Engineering and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required, either as a native speaker or with a clear command.

Experience:

  • Ideally, candidates should have over 3 years of experience in testing and measurement to national or European standards, particularly with electro-mechanical shakers.
  • Experience in automotive or high voltage products is advantageous, though training will be provided.
  • Familiarity with PC and associated software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and Automated Test Software; basic programming skills are a plus.
  • Ability to accurately document test results and prepare test reports.
  • Understanding of 5S principles and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the capability to delegate tasks effectively within a team.
  • A customer-centric attitude with the ability to manage client relationships.
  • Capacity to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
