Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to enhance our rheumatology services within NHS Lanarkshire. This pivotal role involves leading and refining the clinical pharmacy services for rheumatology patients, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals set by the Head of Pharmacy and the Clinical Lead for Rheumatology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, facilitating the safe and effective management of medications for rheumatology patients.
  • Drive the clinical governance framework and establish systems for the safe use of medicines, particularly for patients undergoing treatment with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologics.
  • Develop and assess clinical protocols and Patient Group Directions, while leading quality improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize your independent prescribing qualification to support a team of prescribers in managing complex medication regimens.
  • Oversee the initiation of biologic therapies, collaborating closely with the Homecare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient responses to DMARDs, particularly during the initial treatment phase.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • At least 6 years of hospital pharmacy experience, with a minimum of 4 years in a clinical specialty.
  • Proven ability to monitor and optimize patient therapeutic regimens.
  • Experience in delivering postgraduate training and education.
  • Strong clinical audit skills to enhance practice.
  • Excellent communication and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to manage resources effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Participation in weekend and holiday working may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in rheumatology.
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification.
  • Capability to mentor pre-registration pharmacists.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with senior medical and pharmacy staff.

Contract Details

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 37 hours per week. The role involves working across multiple acute sites within NHS Lanarkshire.
